Community
Jefferson Prep is a socially responsible company, and we believe in helping our community.
As a consequence, a portion of our profits are appropriated for Jefferson Prep Scholars. We award scholarships to students who can demonstrate financial need, outstanding academic standing, and a dedication to studying global climate change.
More specifically, the scholarships are given to students who can demonstrate all three of the following: 1) Outstanding academic standing (B+ or 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher) 2) Financial need 3) An active interest in global climate change (for example, an interest in pursuing a study of environmental sciences in college, being currently active in efforts to inform others about the risks of global warming, etc)
We ask applicants to submit a 500-word essay in response to the following question: “Climate change, and particularly global warming caused by human activities, is one of the greatest dangers our planet has ever faced. If you were granted the authority, what immediate changes would you implement to halt global warming?”
Please submit the essay to scholarship@jeffersonprep.com

2010 Jefferson Prep Scholarship Announced
Jefferson Prep has announced the most recent recipient of the Jefferson Prep Scholarship. The Scholarship was established to honor students who have an active interest in studying global climate change.
We are pleased to award the scholarship to Ms. Yong Yi Wu of Washington DC.
When her father decided that a woman didn’t need a college education, Ms. Wu’s mother fled China so that her daughter could fulfill her dream of becoming a scientist. During her first year in the US, Ms. Wu achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, notwithstanding language difficulties. During the second semester of her junior year, Ms. Wu enrolled in the internationally renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) program, a Swiss-based system.
Ms. Wu’s aspires to become a biochemical engineer. One of her current science experiments in an IB Biology course is investigating how iron initiates algae bloom, a process which might decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere.
“Jefferson Prep is pleased to recognize Ms. Wu, and to reward her dedication and exceptional achievement,” said Peter Cormons, Vice President of Jefferson Prep. “It gives us great pleasure to encourage students who are interested in combating global climate change and other environmental issues.”
